ABOUT

Live music is where the magic happens.
Jam band, groove, listening to each other, good songwriting, melody, good harmony, hooks.
Real Hammond organs are the best!

A San Diego songwriter, guitarist, and surfer, with backgrounds in Rock, Surf, Reggae, Jazz, and World Music, Marklyn Retzer blends these experiences into a sonic travelog of lyrical bliss, easy grooves and guitar based soundscapes, creating acoustic based, groove pop rock music, with catchy hooks, and lush, transcendent lyrics. In concert, Marklyn dives in to the music to connect with listeners, creating a heart-felt community experience. Marklyn's music is a good fit for listeners of Ben Harper, Jack Johnson, and John Mayer. Marklyn has performed around the world for festivals, concerts, and universities, from large to intimate settings, from Tahiti to Canada, and across the western United States, playing in front of more than 100,000 people, appearing as a featured band in the Cable TV pilot "Local Distortion," having songs featured in the movies On Safari Again (starring Joel Tudor and Wingnut,) and Going with the Flow. Marklyn has performed in hundreds of venues including the World Famous San Diego Zoo, The Belly-Up, The House of Blues, The Roxy, The Whiskey-a-Go-Go, colleges and universities, Mairie de Pirae Palace in Tahiti, the Nevada State Prison for Women, and many others. Marklyn's guitar sounds are heard on numerous recordings, most notably his solo releases, but also several albums with the band True Tale, and the album Emotional Rollercoaster by Diversifyd, and Who Am I? by Cori and the Music. Marklyn enjoys surfing, playing and watching soccer, and hanging out with his family. As a life-long reader, he especially enjoys the lush prose and surrealist beauty of the magical realism genre with The Shadow of the Wind and Love in the Time of Cholera as a couple favorites. Marklyn spends as much time as possible experiencing nature, especially the ocean, and these times influence and show up in his songwriting.?
