ABOUT

Take a deep breath and strap yourself in before reading this, or just click next.

I actually have two projects in the fire right now:

Both are microtonal projects using 19 notes per octave. I can help supply instruments, but, if you don't know what that means, please inquire for more details, or just click next.

1. Naegleria Fowleri - This band has a parrot for a lead singer. No joke. She is trained to follow along with the rhythm of the music and ad lib squaking and screaming in real time. She's not going to sing "Smoke on the Water" or "Brown Eyed Girl" or whatever; not in a million years. If I can get a live band together, I would like to lobby to play at Dog Mountain in St. Johnsbury. I'm not sure where else we could play without having to transport a bird too far from home or violate health ordinances, but I doubt anyone serious will respond to the ad anyway. This band has never played in public before.

2. Bostjan Zupancic: MicroMetal (BoZu: MM for short) - More accessible than the other band, but still with the weird tuning, and mostly modern metal style. I have five albums out already, but it would be cool to branch out from there. I've done two gigs with that project in the past three years. There's not a big call for weird tuning metal bands, and frankly, I've had a tough time finding other musicians who aren't put off by the weird tuning.

3. A new project. Hoping to go for a general style of uneasy listening, if we go this route. I've played Van Morrison and AC/DC requests in cover bands for decades. I want to do whatever the opposite of that is. It can be a lot of fun, but playing things that subvert listener expectations is more fun.

If you read all of that and haven't said to yourself "This profile is a hot turd," go ahead and shoot me an email. Even if you have no interest in playing together, I love talking about music and networking with local bands.

Influences

I don't even know what to say. If you want to get an idea of what this sounds like, look us up on or be. Naegleria Fowleri sounds like Buckethead tried out for Meshuggah while being attacked by parrots. BoZu:MM doesn't really sound like anything in particular; I guess kind of a little prog rock and a little thrash with a bit of death metal and black metal thrown in.

But... If you contact me and you are interested in doing something in a funky tuning, it could be whatever. I like genre bending. We could play funk/bluegrass/klesmer/deathmetal with a kazoo breakdown halfway through the song, and it would be a riot for me. I like bands like Estradasphere. Check them out if you read this far.
