Macy’s Music Festival is one of Cincinnati’s music festivals that takes place during the summer time and celebrates the world’s unique musicians. The festival began in 1962 as an all jazz festival and eventually started showcasing every type of contemporary music including R&B, hip-hop, and jazz. Some performers that have performed at Macy’s Music Festival include Randy Crawford, George Duke, Patti LaBelle, Chaka Kahn, and Luther Vandross. Some other popular music festivals held in Cincinnati include the MidPoint Music Festival and the Cincinnati Celtic Festival. Popular bands from Cincinnati include Over the Rhine, Blessid Union of Souls, 98 Degrees, and The Greenhornes.
Bogart’s is considered “Cincinnati’s original alternative rock headquarters.” In its quaint beginnings, Bogart’ still hosted big name acts like Prince, the Police and U2. It has expanded over the years and continues to feature artists like R.E.M and Bob Dylan. Bogart’s also offers regional talent from indie acts to high school bands. Another popular venue is The Blue Note. The Blue Note offers live national and local acts six nights a week. Musicians at The Blue Note play everything from acoustic to rock to pop. The Blind Lemon is an eclectic jazz club that has featured artists like Kingston Trio and Jimmy Buffett and has had guests like Crosby, Stills, and Nash, Michael Jackson, and the Smothers Brothers. However, the Blind Lemon primarily offers an eclectic mix of local jazz musicians.
