Experienced musician, playing bass guitar for well over 15 years (gigging, studio recording, touring, etc). I have recently moved to the USA from Scotland where I previously played with a number of successful bands (of different genres). My ideal band or style would be a funk-based band, but I also like the alternative or modern rock styles fused with a bit of funk in the backbone (same even goes for modern country). I play 5 string basses and have a combination of fretted, fretless and electric upright. I am also a drummer - but hey, any bass player who isn't connected to rhythm isn't really worth a second look, right? I regularly practice both bass and drums (on V-Drums) and also know keyboards too (mainly the funk stuff, which are essentially like transposed bass parts played on a clav). I have recorded a number of studio albums, some of which are available on Spotify and the usual digital outlets (iTunes, Amazon, etc). You can email on paulm at dot co dot uk.

Influences
Too many to mention - let's go with the ones that spring to mind ... primarily Alan Gorrie from The Average White Band (as far as playing goes). Musically I have an incredibly diverse taste - everything from funk to folk, rock to country and almost everything in between. If it's done well I can usually appreciate it (I generally don't like 'mediocre'). Bands/musicians would include (but not limited to), Stevie Wonder (a god), Incognito, Lettuce (Adam Deitch could be one of the world's greatest modern drummers), Parliament, Funkadelic, Michael Jackson (that's right, I said it), Allan Stone (a Seattle soul genius), a ton of old skool hip-hop (that's right, we had hip-hop in Scotland too), and a load of other stuff. If you're interested, let's talk about it over a beer.

EQUIPMENT
Equipment lists seem moderately pretentious to me, but I have a selection of 4 and 5 string basses of different types and makes. I play 5 string basses, and currently favor my Warwick's (I have a very cool custom fretless which I've had for many years now). I play an electric upright - apart from looking like a something from James Bond, it has a great sound. I'm using MarkBass amplification at the moment (having just moved over from Trace Elliot) and have a reasonable recording set-up at home. Other instruments include an amazing Nord Electro 3 and my Roland V-Drums (where I spend an hour or so each night).
