ABOUT

Us:
We are two guitarists and a bass player seeking a drummer for an avant-garde metal group focused on developing complex tapestry of polyrhythms combined with elements of contemporary jazz, classical, world music, djent/hardcore/metalcore/mathcore/partial differential equations-core/etc., minimalism, serial repetition, and algorithmic music. While all of the above genre descriptions apply, we generally prefer not to adhere to any particular genre, as our goal is to make music we enjoy while pushing our technical and creative abilities. We each have over 15 years of playing experience, including experience with live performance, studio recording, and composition. We also have a performance space at Studio 52 in Allston and means to record. Our collaboration is based on an equitable social dynamic in which each voice is valued and regarded during our process. Finally, although we all have day jobs, we take our music seriously and work diligently during practice.

You can find GuitarPro versions of three of our songs at this link: s:///grandmal2/sets/current-songs

You:
You are an experienced drummer who is interested in navigating between complex meters while maintaining a reliable scaffold for the music. You have a broad and eclectic taste in music and at least some experience, familiarity with, or a strong desire to play technical aggressive music (e.g., think Meshuggah, Dillinger Escape Plan, Animals as Leaders, etc). You take ownership of your responsibilities and come to practice prepared. It’s critical that you have your own gear. You are preferably between 25-40, although what actually matters is chops and enthusiasm. You are friendly, social, professional, and approach practice with excitement rather than treating it as a burden. Finally, we hope that you are planning to stay in the Boston area for at least a little while.

If this sounds up your alley, please reach out with information about you, your musical history/preferences, any recorded examples of your playing, and what you are seeking to get out of a collaboration. We look forward to hearing back.
