A special childhood acquaintance was "Buddy Merrill", who went on to play steel guitar for "The Laurence Welk Show". Buddy and his family grew up in the same town as my family. My father, Buddy, me at the age of 10, along with Buddy's stepfather, Lesley Bahuain, played as a band in those early years. I played lead guitar with my 1959 Les Paul Gold Top Custom in many bands before finally having enough funds for my first pedal steel guitar, a used Fender 4 neck- 8 string. I would say another influence was Charley Pride because of the opportunity to be part of the band that jammed with him back in the 70's. I was playing a SD12-7X5 Universal by then. My main stage steel guitar is a Rains SD10-5X5 and a George Boards 8 string C6th lab. If you understand pedal steels then you'll know - Jimmy Day, Lloyd Green, Pete Drake, Buddy Emmons, Paul Franklin, David Hartley, and the one and only John Hughey.

Needless to say, after a life time of producing music I could open a new and classic equipment music store. My home studio is packed with new and vintage equipment.
