Powerful, symphonic metal is the name of the game for San Jose's RetConStruct. The funky spelling comes from the band's true name: Retroactive Continuity Construct. The female fronted group was only birthed two years ago, but has found a way to create a sound all their own -- it's modern metal at its finest for sci-fi geeks, fantasy nerds, and music snobs alike. Even their latest album's name, "Denizens of the Depths," sounds like some sort of goth metal tragedy. Dramatic, edgy, heavy, and doomy, RetConStruct knows how to weave captivating soundscapes and pull if off live. Listening to RetConStruct is like taking a stroll through the darkest parts of mythology. There are three Valdes-es in this band, one being the singer Jill Valdes, who operatically guides the music with her yells. The melody is strong, with dual guitars adding some grandiosity and symphonic feeling to the cacophony of sounds. Layers of metal fury are perfectly stacked with technical prowess and dark lyrics that touch on doomsday, devils, castles, and the end of men. Live, the band delivers -- powerful bass lines, raw and grinding guitars, droning sounds, and cinematic vocals. Be ready to drink in the dark beauty of RetConStruct.
Sophomore album Denizens of the Depths (2014 - released by Pavement Entertainment and distributed by Sony RED) takes a dark turn towards symphonic metal with heavy fantasy, horror and mythology themes.
RetConStruct is a Pavement Entertainment and Sony/RED recording artist.
