Reverence of the Martyr is an American metal band hailing from Salt Lake City, Utah. Originally formed in Houston, TX in 2012 as a solo studio project by multi-instrumentalist, Ehrgott, Reverence of the Martyr blends elements of many sub-genres in the metal hemisphere including death, black, doom, melodic, and extreme metal. The sound is anchored around heavy polyphonic guitar harmonies that create layers of complex melodies and a wall of sound. After a slow start to the efforts of Reverence of the Martyr, Ehrgott met Gobeille in 2019. Gobeille brought the missing ingredient of intense, heavy, and polyrhythmic drumming that help to define the current sound of the project. Online reviews have compared the sound of Reverence of the Martyr to many mainstay European metal acts including Old Man’s Child, Septic Flesh, and Lord Belial. Lyrical themes include the abuse of power, the ignorance of mankind, the loss of knowledge and culture through conquest, and the futility of life. The current lineup of Reverence of the Martyr is Ehrgott – vocals, guitars, bass, keys, and Gobeille – drums. Former contributors include Perez – drums. Reverence of the Martyr’s first full-length album “Blood Horizon” was released in January 2023, and is available on most music platforms.
