Bass Guitar, Drums.ABOUT
R/E, short for Rhymer/Educator, began in 2018 as the side project of band-vocalist Joe Ruiz, who used the process of recording a hip-hop album to raise money for a local charity. The success of the project prompted live musicians yo join the act and by 2019, R/E was opening for Vanilla Ice, MAX, and Pitbull. The group has continued to play, especially during the summer, and are now working on their first album using all live instruments (other R/E albums utilized purchased hip-hop beats). Recently, our bass player moved to WI to be closer to family after COVID, and our drummer has given notice that he will have to leave after our August shows due to personal reasons. This leaves quite the hole in our group and we’re hoping to meet some nice, talented musicians here.

Influences
The band has evolved. R/E started as pure lyrical (conscious-type) rap, with influences such as Talib Kweli, early Kanye West, Noname, Saba, and Lupe Fiasco. However, as the live band began to pour their own talents into the music, the sound has evolved. Most recent (yet-to-be-released) recordings, while still maintaining hip-hop roots, are more melodic (more singing). Think Lawrence the Band, Jason Mraz, or the more soulful side of N.E.R.D.
