As a bass player growing up in the sixties, I had a wide variety of influences to learn from (James Jamerson, Paul McCartney, Jack Bruce, RIck Danko, Harvey Brooks, Billy Cobham, John Entwhistle to name a few). To me, how the bass drives the song is the most important role of the bass player. The groove comes before technical prowess..
