ABOUT

I first picked up a flute in my early 20s. Was initially influenced by and still am to a certain extent by Ian Anderson on flute but then it became so much more. Was as influenced by my parents love of Sinatra and Trini Lopez and Herp Albert as any. Would listen to the Summer Wind by Sinatra and Frigid Pinks House of the Rising Sun in a single sitting back to back. To say I was not influenced by the music of my generation would be just wrong, CSNY, James Taylor still stuff I listen to and play today. Right now picked back up where I almost started at decades ago with Rampals Suite for Flute and Jazz Piano, Irlandaise and Sentimentale still some of my favorites. Will play that along with Becks version of Over the Rainbow back to back...so hard to pigeon hole me... But I prefer acoustic, someone who gets around on the guitar and wants to make something sweet. years ago I played with my kid brother and we did lots of nice stuff, also played with a bunch of guys 30 years ago as interested in the sort of things I was, from Weather Report to Clapton to George Benson.

Influences

John Neptune, Return to Forever, James Moody, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Santana, Wes Montgomery, Weather Report, Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, etc. etc. etc. sort of a silly thing to ask, the list really is endless. To say the influences are just about performers is sort of missing the point, it is about how they play a certain song. I listen to everything...I am influenced by everything. Want to go see Botti at Sandler in a bit as his version of In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning with Sting one of my favorites, and I like to play it.
