ABOUT

Experienced amateur guitarist looking to join or form for-fun but serious band in Buffalo, NY area. I started playing in 1973, played in bands in high school and college, then took about 2o years off for "real life". I've been playing with my reunited early-'80s bar band since 2009, but only playing about once every two years and the hassle of driving to Philly for rehearsals and gigs leaves me wanting more.

I'd like to put together or join something part-time in the Buffalo area, where me & the missus have been living for the last two years. Interested in eventually gigging regularly but not frequently, say on the order of once a month, but believe that rehearsal is required to get a band tight before inflicting our art on the public. Not looking for loose jams. Call me "serious but with no delusions of greatness".

Solid backing vocalist, occasionally take a turn at lead vocals. Some formal music theory training, good at transcribing, arranging.

Personal: Married, homeowner, four kids grown and three are out of the house. Not yet retired electrical engineer. Travel occasionally for work.

Influences

My early influences were '70s rock like Deep Purple, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, and Rush but I really found my "thing" when I discovered late '70s -early '80s post-punk new wave rock. My strongest influences are Elliott Easton (Cars), Andy Summers (Police), James Honeyman-Scott and Robbie McIntosh (Pretenders), Johnny Marr (Smiths and everything since).

Lately the old Philly band has been covering: The Police, The Pretenders, Talking Heads, The Cars, Garbage, Sheryl Crow, Elvis Costello, Blondie, Joe Jackson, No Doubt, Counting Crows, The Clash, Berlin, Cyndi Lauper, Genesis, U2, REM, Inxs, The Motels, etc.
