The first time I heard a cassette of “Burn”, I was hooked and committed to the pursuit of achieving Ian Paice’s skills behind the kit. It was his speed and fluidity, his tight fills and solid pocket. Later that led to an interest in single and double stroke rolls/paradiddles, which led me to Dave Abbruzzese and Carter Beaufford. As I got older, I started playing with more power and finally felt fluid enough to play in bands. I am never more comfortable around a large group of people as I am when I’m behind my kit onstage. I’ve studied the greats more and more as I’ve aged, and
now 20 years later, I’m still learning!
