Rusty Wilson started playing piano and guitar at age 5. His Great Grandmother, Mary Evelyn DuBois, taught him to play old gospel hymns such as “Go Down Moses” and “I’ll Fly Away”. He started playing professionally when he was 13 years old accompanying his uncle’s classic country band at family reunions, weddings and parties. At age 16 he played is first gig in a country nightclub, however this did not last long due to his age. His father, a professional drummer, showed him the ropes as he honed his skills sitting in at rehearsals. It seemed as though Rusty was born for the stage. After high school, Rusty joined the United States Army, which took him to Fort Campbell, KY, which is only an hour's drive from Nashville, TN. While in Nashville, Rusty sharpened his song writing skills with writers such as Brett Jones, Rick Tiger and Papa John Alee. Rusty would go on to join the United States Army Soldier Show and tour the United States and Europe. During this time he performed at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, GA, the National Convention of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and many other special events. After the Soldier show, the young man was assigned to a military unit in Korea. He quickly formed a band and began performing at bases and local establishments all over South Korea. After returning to the United States, Rusty eventually, joined a band in Central Louisiana called The Refitters in 2004. Soon after, the band was renamed Rusty Wilson and High Life, and they quickly became a crowd favorite all over Lousiana, Mississippi, and East Texas. Rusty relocated to Germany in 2008 and quickly joined a band called The Country Stars and performed at venues throughout Europe. Just 2 months after settling in San Antonio, TX, Rusty joined Texas Hill Country group, The Cedar Fever Band for whom he plays Pedal Steel Guitar, Lead Guitar, and Mandolin as well as lead vocals and background vocals. He has earned a reputation as a dynamic performer that is at home on stage and a thrill to watch. Rusty has won numerous songwriting and talent contests and has performed on radio and television, including the Disney Channel. Find out more at www.rustywilson.org.
