Rob Junceau is a Madison, WI native, laid back in his nature yet determined in his career. He is a seasoned performer, talented bassist and all around musician. Since the age of 14 he has continued to study and has pursued his professional career in music. He works as an instructor, live performer and studio musician.
Starting off in his early years, Rob started taking lessons from private instructors such as: Ted Wingfield & John Tubbs. He was driven by his adoration for the most under estimated component of music, namely the bass. His inspiration for music started early in life and was influenced by his father whom is an accomplished working musician, attorney and a judge.
Over the short period of 3 years he accelerated in his ability with the influence of his instructors. He gave his first lessons to his friends in high school by junior year. In his senior year he designed and taught alongside teachers in credit classes for Intro to Bass Techniques. He was already starting to take the first steps towards a career in music and instruction.
Rob was accepted into the UW White Water Music program. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music with primary concentration on string bass. He studied with some of the most proverbial talent, during his time at UWW and studied under renowned bassists such as: Jeff Eckles - Oscar winner and has worked with many studio music projects with well known musicians such as Willie Porter; Jason Heath - Host of Contrabass Conversations and on the board of directors for The International Society of Bassists; Tim Gilson a renowned instructor affiliated with many orchestra and educational programs nationwide. During his time at UWW he played with the Jazz Combo's, Big Band, UWW symphony and performed in numerous recitals. He plays upright, bowed, 4, 5 & 6 string fretted and fretless bass guitar.
During his college years he continued to build a consistent roster of students. Some of his them have been accepted into some of the most well respected music schools in the nation such as: UCLA, The Manhattan Conservatory, Berklee, DePaul, Univ. of N.Texas (UNT), Univ. of Wisconsin (UW) and Univ. of N. Carolina (UNC) - Wilmington. He's accumulated over 20,000 verifiable hours of professional bass instruction in his studio. He's instructed hundreds of students. Professionally, he has over 1,000 live shows under his belt reaching as far west as Colorado. Rob's been featured on the radio. KGRR 97.3 FM in 2008 as a "solo bassist". He performed on the air along with his former studio alumni Jeff Wiess who studies under Richard Davis at UW - Madison. He's also no stranger to the studio and has recorded at Smart Studios, Sleepless Nights and Audio for the Arts along with others.
Starting from the present day, Rob is currently touring the United States with The Mighty Short Bus (The MSB Band), which he joined in 2001. The MSB band is known to many as being one of the hardest working bands around. Over his time with MSB they have overtaken the Midwest area and are venturing across the nation expanding their fan base. The MSB Band consists of Nic Adamany, Frank Busch, Rob (of course) and their new drummer Andrew Iordachescu, who replaced long time drummer Ben Stitgen. Josh Smith also played keys for some time. Both Ben and Josh were respected members.
Their dedication has paid off with the release of their third album "Forever Endeavor". Presently they are in a constant state of touring - all of them have earned their honorable stripes in the music industry. They've opened for many headlining bands such as: Cross Canadian Rag Weed, Spin Doctors, Freddy Jones Band, Head East, Fog Hat, Sonny Landreth, The Guffs, Cowboy Mouth, Tim Mahoney and a few others. They've played at some of the largest music festivals state and nationwide. (Summer Fest, Water Fest, The Taste of Madison, Camp Randall, etc.) They've been chosen and invited back at many venues. They've also center stage as the headlining band.
Relentless in their work, they have a built a noticeable fan base and you can easily spot people singing along to their favorite MSB songs. You can also find Rob and his fellow band members on billboards, T.V. programs such as Urban Theater and interviews on the local news stations such as NBC-15 news. Their music has been in rotation on FM radio stations such as Madison MMM (Triple M) and charted on college radio across the country. They can be heard on hundreds of radio stations on the internet and on the air. They have also been featured within state and out-of-state newspapers, media publications, posters and flyers. The Mighty Short Bus is still on tour and performing across the nation. Catch their dates on their website at .msbband
Before his affiliation with MSB, there was and still is Cold Fusion. Performances are much rarer now than when they were a full scale gig over 7 years ago. Anyone who experiences Cold Fusion is likely to never forget it. People often wonder at first where the lead singer is. Shortly after the first song, people soon realize Cold Fusion doesn't need a lead singer. They hold up to their name by fusing rock, jazz, blues and funk. The deep bass lines and solos perfectly blend with the sassy guitar riffs of Jason Standish, aside the melodic rhythm section of Rob and Mike Phillips on drums simply put, grabs their audience's attention. It's a 3-peice blend of rhythmic beauty that allows the listeners to sit back, enjoy and experience. Check out the portfolio section to hear and see more from both recent and past performances.
One thing he's always stressed that is that his experience in performing and teaching at the same time has always consistently amazed him at the talent he's experienced. Teaching and performing has taught him in return. He credits his friends, family, students and fans to his success and never forgets what is important "music and inspiration". Most of all, Rob believes in sharing the experience in life all the way around.
