ABOUT

I started with an introduction to the drums in the 5th grade while living in Tacoma Washington. This took place in the 1960s. Then came 6th grade and my parents decided to give me for Christmas my first Gretsch Round Badge champagne sparkle snare drum from the Ted Reed Music store in downtown Tacoma. From there I went to Robert Gray Junior High School and played in their concert band. My parents could see I was taking a real interest in the drums so from there they traded in the Gretsch Round Badge and purchased the Ludwig Ringo Starr kit with the Black Oyster wrap. They could not afford the cymbals or high hat but only the drums. They said you are on your own from here. From there I went to high school and continued with concert and marching band. I wanted to go into the jazz program but did not have the confidence I needed. Fast forwarding to the middle 70s, I ended up getting married. My wife and I had two beautiful children, a boy and a girl. For the next 20 years I focused on raising my kids. I did not want them to grow up without a father the way I did. I did play some rock and roll with a couple of bands but nothing serious while raising the kids and trying to be a husband to my wife. After the kids were grown and gone I decided at 50 years old to really dig into my drums. I took lessons from 3 professional jazz drummers in Sacramento. Tim Metz, Mat Marucci and Rick Lotter. Due to Tim Metz help I was able to get into the American River Junior College Jazz Program. I did a lot of combo work and Big Band. Now I play at some wineries from time to time and basically have fun. I also go to church at Living Hope Community Church in Fair Oaks California where I play contemporary Christian music on the worship team as the church drummer every Sunday. While doing my music on the side, I am helping my daughter with the raising of my grandkids.
Well that is pretty much my story.
