ABOUT

First, let me say that God is Good! I am an all around bass player that loves all types of music. Depending on my mood you'll hear everything on my car stereo from rap, to funk, country, bluegrass, latin jazz, gospel, and classical. My formative years were spent listening and playing gospel so my groove is very strong and my pocket drives.

Influences

I have a lot of influences and tons of inspirations. Listening to a songbird sing 25-30 different medleys at 4:00 in the morning is beautiful music to me! Coincidentally, mockingbirds mimic the songs of over a dozen of other bird species which explains why you hear this bird sing so many different pattterns. Now that bird class 101 is over....As for bass players I love them all great and small but my main influences are: John Patitucci,Stanley Clarke,Chris Squire, Anthony Jackson is phenomenal and an icon in my book, Marcus Miller (no explanation necessary), Lawrence Cook (a local great, humble and monstrous; he'll blow u away with 2 notes),Fred Hammond, Melvin Davis,Volley Craig, Mo Fitzgerald,Larry Graham,Will Lee & Verdine White (both for their creativity and crazy energy!) & who doesn't love Vic Wooten? As a kid learning to play bass, my local heroes were: Alfred Lee, Althea Davis, & gospel greats; Andre Gouche, Paul Peters, and Alfred Lee. I am also influenced by guitarists like Steve Vai, Reeve Gabriels, Steve Lukather, & former SFLA local Mike Ripoll ( a hot young gunslinger who you will be hearing a lot about in the folllowing months, and whom I have had the pleasure of working with..he's on the soundtrack for the movie "Mr and Mrs Smith!"), also my sister on lead guitar, Dazz Brown ( she's really influenced my wah work..Thanks Dazz! Keyboardists such as Chick Corea, Jimmy Jam, Patrick Leonard, and SFLA locals such as, Ben Stymer formerly of Paris (local monster),Star Thomas IV(killing!), Raymond Hanna (serious groover that will go outside the box),and Marc Cooper(if you know the name, you know the history!) Another young man that comes to mind is James Dawkins..His Hammond work is SERIOUS and he's just getting started-LOOK OUT for HIM!

EQUIPMENT

My main setup is a 2 Hartke 4x10 cabs, (normally one cab is enough for a club), a Hartke series 3500 head, monster cables, different effects depending on my mood or the music, and my main baby, a dunlop bass wah. I play 4,5, and 6 string basses. My main bass is a Fender Deluxe 5 string with Seymour Duncans pickups. I do play synth bass from time to time and I do sing background vocals.
