ABOUT

I'm a 30-year-old bass player who works as an RN. I would ideally like to hook up with a band in the Columbus or southern Ohio area with a beginning commitment of a gig a week or every 2 weeks. This can change if the band does well (since I will have to work less!) I enjoy rock, and metal but I think my real loves are jazz, funk and prog rock (weird, I know...) I have been playing for 15 years and I tend to have a rather "up front" style, although I know how to groove and keep a band together (the bass player's main job!) I can also sing, but I'm a bass player first. I can slap well, and know how to use this technique even in situations where others wouldn't (although I don't force it). I play fretless quite a bit, and love it! I can solo on fretted or fretless. I'm also starting to explore the upright. I have good knowledge of theory, although I learn easiest by ear. I can read, but at a rather slow pace.
The last band I was in that had some success was a group in athens called "white elephant logic" (named after a Hemingway novel and a Steely Dan album). This was an almost completely imporovisational group that played what our listeners called "psychadelic jazz"...probably a good description.
I think I have a lot to offer the right band and would be happy to audition or just jam to see how things go. The one requirement for any band I would join...wait for it...a slammin' drummer who can combine skill with feel.
