ABOUT

Music for the mentally enlightened and disturbed

The Reverend Otis Waits was born in Mississippi along the Mississippi River in a trailer. Born a bastard as Otis T. Woolworth, his birth killed his mother. Raise by his adopted father The Reverend William Woolworth, Otis learn a great deal about God and The Devil. He was said to have been playing in a sandbox with an imaginary friend he called Beel.

Spending most of his days in a Pentecostal holiness church with sing gospel and praising the Lord for his father. William dubbed him The Reverend of Gospel. he found peace in the general blues sounds of gospel and wanted to branch out against the world with his own project. His father became very angry with this decision and became abusive physically and mentally toward Otis.

Otis turned to alcoholism, drinking a bottle of whiskey a day. And before he knew it, ten years had past, and he was an evangelist and traveling the south, upholding the values of the Pentecostal points of view. Though he was still a sinner, whiskey, women and gambling had become his true loves and they didn’t dance well with The Lord.

Then came Alice Coltrane. Miss Coltrane was a class act, and a woman of The Lord. She stole the heart of Otis Woolworth and consented to marriage. She and Otis both thought she could help him find his way back to the Lord. But he turned for the worst and showed his roots. He, himself, became abusive mentally and physically. Until the day came when Alice Coltrane could no longer stand it, and during a filming of a commercial killed Otis and sent his soul to hell.

His soul, now in hell, Otis came face to face with Satan. “What say you, sinner?” the devil called. Otis realizing where he was, who was in front of him, used sin to his advantage; “I’ll make you a bet.” Satan stared into the sterile eyes of Otis Woolworth and began to laugh. “What is your bet?”

“I’ll bet I can save more souls than you can steal before judgment day.”

“And you purse?”

“My soul is redeemed and I can go to the promised land to sit in the kingdom of Heaven.”

Satan laughed loud and fire surrounded them; Otis began to sweat.

“You want me to allow you to return to earth, to save souls for Him?”

The fire raised above their heads and Otis felt as though he was being cooked like the stews William made for Sunday dinner.

“Very well Otis, you will wait. You will live in your father’s house, by the river of blood where your mother was killed by your birth, where William left you with bloody noses because you would not worship the one you praise as the almighty. You will have your body again, but you will not have true love. You can never touch another woman until you have won your prize. And you will retain all your vices.”

Otis thought of Alice Coltrane.

“It’s a bet demon, I’ll do what I please. And come the day of the return, I will walk through the gates of heaven and know true love again.”

Otis has risen from the dead and down by the river in Mississippi, living in his father’s trailer; he’s formed a band and has a message and lesson for all us sinners.
