ABOUT

I play acoustic, electric and synth guitars and read jazz charts. My favorite genre is Jazz, a musical art form that evolved from New Orleans in the late 19th century incorporating the blues format and characterized by improvisation. It's been called a celebration of life. The idiom has come a long way since it's origins but remains an engaging auditory format of storytelling.

Influences

I discovered music at an early age and was fortunate to grow up in an era and an environment that exposed me to a diverse range of musical styles. My outlook tends to be forward looking incorporating blues, mid twentieth century jazz, classic rock and classical forms.

I've listened to and have been influenced by many of the musicians and composers who defined those eras and styles as well as their contemporaries. Some of my favorites are listed below.

Guitarists: Eddie Lang, Kenny Burrell, Wes Montgomery, Tal Farlow, Barney Kessel, Joe Pass, Jim Hall, John McLaughlin, Pat Metheny, Kurt Rosenwinkle and Pasquale Grasso.

Pianists: Art Tatum, Barry Harris, Duke Ellington, Mary Lou Williams, Bud Powell, George Shearing, Bill Evans, Joe Zawinul, Herbie Hancock, Thelonius Monk, Kenny Barron.

Horn and sax players: Louis Armstrong, Roy Eldridge, Dizzy Gillespie, Clifford Brown, Miles Davis, Wynton Marsalis, Coleman Hawkins, Lester Young, Cannonball Adderly, Sonny Stitt, Charlie Parker, Michael Brecker.

Rock bands: The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Blood Sweat and Tears, The Alman Brothers, The Doobie Brothers, Santana, Steely Dan, The Eagles.
