Russell Carter - Russell is the former Executive Director and Woodwind Instructor of the DC Music Center, which has provided low cost affordable music lessons in the Washington D.C. metro area for over 42 years.
Founder of the Carter Jazz Band featuring sons Rashaan Carter bass; Russell Carter Jr drums; Roland Carter piano.
Some of the Center's most notable alumni are his sons Rashaan Carter (Bennie Golson, Geri Allen, Wallace & Antoine Roney, Ravi Coltrane) and Russell Carter Jr. (Sonny Simmons, Billy Bang, Doug and Jeane Carn).
Russell Carter Sr has played with a host of musicians including the Cab Calloway Orchestra, Doug Carn, trumpeter Webster Young, trumpeter Don Cherry, drummer Winard Harper, soul singer Solomon Burke and soul vocal group The O'Jays.
