Musically I've been playing drums and guitar for fifteen years. My first recordings in a real studio were for a thrash metal band when I was thirteen. At the same time I played in another band doing classic rock for birthday parties. I would play drums with bands and play guitar by myself during high school. I tried to join Concert Band and when a sheet of music was put in front of me as my audition didn't know how to read it. This got me into teaching myself basic theory in order to play with the school's band for the last two years of high school as well as prepare me for my college audition. Throughout college I played in the university wind ensemble, orchestra, jazz band, and percussion ensemble also having a student job recording these performances as well as other chamber groups. Musically I got into a lot of Steve Reich, Elliott Carter and John Cage and really got into poly rhythms and metric modulations. I kept a long distance metal band I started while in KU that I still play in today, but also played with others frequently in a jazz trio around campus and pubs, and a hard punk band that I also still play in played basements and did week long DIY tours en route to play a small festival. 2013 was also my first self produced recordings I made of myself multi tracking drums, vocals, bass, guitar, and piano to sound like a full band. After my graduation I focused on gigging and playing out a lot some great shows and some terrible shows. Most of 2016 and 2017 was a lot of writing and studio time. I've taught on and off in high school and college but at this point in my life I've lived through some of the tolls of being a traveling drummer like to be quick with your setup and break down, be mobile with your kit and know how to move it without much effort, be completely comfortable on someone else's kit and be completely comfortable with the way you play drums.
