ABOUT

I am a 25-year old freelance guitarist originally from San Francisco, CA. I moved to Memphis, TN in 2003 to attend Visibleschool, a Christian music and worship arts college. In 2004 I started doing studio work and have continued to do so since. In 2009 I was offered my first major touring gig (Christian recording artist Todd Agnew) and have been touring on and off with several artists since. I have just relocated to Nashville and am both seeking employment in either a touring capacity, and available for any studio session needs. I can be reached at weaver.samuel.

I have several pro-quality samples of my playing I would be happy to send anyone interested. For now, here is a link to my dear friend Myla Smith Thomas' site where you can stream her new record White/Gold and hear some representative examples of my electric and acoustic playing.

Influences

My earliest influences were session monsters Dan Huff, George Cocchini, and Jerry Mcpherson, as heard on 90% of the Christian pop records I listened to as a kid. Later in junior high, I became a huge Phil Keaggy fan and studied him for a few years. High school was my baptism in classic rock and 80's hair metal, (Jimmy Page, Warren Haynes, Jeff Beck, David Gilmour, and of course EVH). As I got older and eventually moved to Tennessee (and into my college years), I gained an appreciation for rich tones and textures and began listening to guitarists like Mark Byrd, Andy Summers, The Edge, Michael Guy Chislett, Bryan Laurenson, and Jonny Greenwood. I take bits and pieces from all of these different eras of my history and attempt to craft a method of playing guitar that is technically proficient, yet breathes, and bridges gaps between different genres rather than further isolating them. The way that I build tones and parts comes ultimately out of the song they're intended for.
