I just moved to NYC recently (October, 2020) and am looking for people that have or want to form a band. I have a 9-5 job; this is something that I want to do for fun – I am totally down to gig, but equally happy just meeting up regularly to jam, teach/learn from one another, cover songs, exchange ideas, possibly write, and record most importantly, I am proficient on the keys, lead guitar, rhythm guitar, and can occasionally stand-in on bass. I have played the keys/piano for a couple decades (never learned how to read sheet music); I’m not going to blow your doors off with my skill but can hold my own for rhythm style playing. I am moderately familiar with music theory; I received 1 on 1 theory lessons for 2 years in my late teens, I don’t know it all, but learned enough that I can easily jump right in with most bands or jam sessions. It also made writing/creating music way easier and so much fun. This time last year, I decided that I was going to learn how to play the guitar, so I bought myself an Epiphone and began lessons. I have picked it up so fast (I think it has to do with my piano experience, theory training, and sheer dedication). Most people don’t believe me when I tell them I have only been playing a year. It’s incredibly fun to play, and has opened up so many creative doors and has allowed me to write music with more than one approach. I have been singing for a decade as well and am comfortable being the lead voice or accompanying with harmonies, or sharing and/or splitting: responsibilities.
