ABOUT

Praise Band Ministry Opportunity

Thank you for your interest in Shiloh Chapel’s Praise Band Ministry. This profile is designed to help answer your questions and prepare you for applying for a position on our worship team.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
• Vocalists (either for lead or backup parts)
• Guitar (Electric, Acoustic, or 12 String)
• Bass

Other instruments will certainly be considered, even though they may not be used each week.

TIME COMMITMENTS
Being a part of our worship team is a modest investment in time. Rehearsals are one evening a week (usually Thursdays for 1.5-2 hours). All team members are expected to come prepared for practice which means practicing the planned music before rehearsal. Rehearsal is not a time to learn your part but a time to blend your practiced skill with the rest of the team. How much you have to practice depends upon your own personal ability. Our service is on Sunday from 11:00-12:30 and we front-load the service with 3-4 songs and end the service with a closing song. Occasionally, we offer special music during the service as well.

Vocalists and instrumentalists can expect to be scheduled 2-4 times per month. Those who lead can be expected to lead once per month in a rotation with other leaders. We do not have nor are we looking for ONE worship leader. We all practice leadership on our team and our team is shaped and honed by sensitivity to the leading of the Spirit of God and mutual respect for the talents and abilities God has given each of us as well as humbleness. We strive to give leadership opportunities to all who demonstrate a desire and an ability to lead. There are many ways to lead.

OUR GET-TO-KNOW-EACH-OTHER PROCESS and WHAT OUR TEAM AND MUSIC IS LIKE
We are seeking to expand our contemporary service and our worship team. This is a great opportunity for people to grow in their giftings of leadership, musical abilities, team dynamics and helping to grow a church. Worship team leaders are often the most visible face of any church besides the pastor. We seek and value team members who have accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and savior, who have a passion for utilizing their gifts for the kingdom of God, are selfless and humble (not seeking attention), who are gracious, patient with others and have joy in sharing their musical gifts with others.

Shiloh Chapel is an Evangelical Friends church. We believe that worship is a privilege of the Christian and that God alone is worthy of our worship, honor, praise and thanksgiving. We have two services, one is traditional and one is contemporary. We are a small body with about 20-30 in attendance on any given Sunday in our contemporary service. Though small, we are in a wonderful place to shape and grow this church, to evolve. Our body is accepting and loving and encouraging. We value family and friends and seek to be a vital part of our community and each other’s lives. We have our own building, located off Hwy 33 in Marysville, Ohio. We believe in serving God and serving others in a way that demonstrates who Christ is..and occasionally, we use words to proclaim the love of Christ. Our contemporary service is a come-as-you-are environment and no specific dress is required of our Worship Team members although we strongly discourage any clothing that is going to be a distraction during worship and discount your witness as a Christian (vulgar langage on clothing, too short, too tight, too revealing, etc). Jeans and tennis shoes are cool and so are dresses and fancy pants :) We encourage women in leadership and no, you don’t have to wear an ankle-length skirt unless you want to.

Our worship music is an eclectic mix but mostly contemporary with an occasional contemporized hymn. We have a set list of around 140 songs and we can share that document with you. We have some oldies (Dancing Generation, Indescribable, Breathe) and we have some newer music (Wake Up by All Sons and Daughters) and we have some enduring favorites (God’s Not Dead, Your Great Name, Revelation Song). We are always evolving and growing our music set and it is influenced by any person who leads. We have a structure for introducing new music to our congregation and do not introduce new songs more than once a month. We normally do a mix of up-tempo music and slow it down before worship but sometimes we play an all up-tempo or all laid-back set, depending on the pastor’s direction for the week. We use chord sheets and do not require music reading skills. We utilize easy methods like be links for sharing new music to practice to before rehearsals.

Currently, we have a female lead who plays guitar and occasionally, bass- and a male lead who plays keyboard. They rotate musical leadership and this is a better structure for us than having only one worship leader. Other leaders are welcome as long as they accept that no leader will be elevated above the rest, and everyone will be given as much opportunity to lead as their time and skill sets allow for. In addition to our female and male lead, we have another male vocalist who sings melody and a drummer and a bongo player/alternate percussionist. Sadly, we are losing our female lead and guitar player due to an out of state move and we are looking to replace her skill sets of guitar, harmonies and vocal lead. However, we desire to grow beyond where we are WITH her, so other instruments and vocalists are desired.

In order to get to know each other, we utilize an informal conversational style (phone, text, email, etc) with certain members of our team and our pastor-nothing too intimidating or formal. We want to get to know you and your heart and of course, we want to know you are willing to get to know us and to serve the Lord by participating in growing this team and this church. From there we invite you to sit in on a rehearsal session and a Sunday service. If all parties are in agreement and the Lord has given us clear hearts about the matter, then we invite you to participate a week during rehearsal and the following Sunday, if you are comfortable. After that, we rely on conversations and relationships that have been forming between you and our team and pastor to determine where we go next. Simply put, if it’s a good fit and the Lord is leading you to us and vice versa, we will know it and you will become a part of our family. If not, we will bless you and ask your blessings in prayer and go our separate ways.
