ABOUT

Hi my name is Nick but my music buddies call me Stiggs. I’m almost 38 and live in advance. Very laid back guy. I am Married with 3 boys and a full time career as a technologist. My greatest passion in life aside from my family is music. Ever since I got my first Casio keyboard as a small child music has touched my soul. I was born and raised in Flint MI which was at the time a wonderful music scene (mid to late nineties and into 2000s).

I am most at home as a songwriter and performer of original music. I thoroughly enjoy the writing and studio process just as much as the live performances. In ever group I have been in I have been the vocalist and occasionally guitar and or keys depending on the group and need. Even when I was only doing vocals live I usually always was a primary songwriter.

Been playing shows since I was 13 in Flint and Detroit areas mainly but really the Midwest as a whole. Moved to NC in 2016.

I still have an original group I jam with. This group is a 3 piece In which I do all vox guitar and keys. Haven’t played live in a couple years and only jam with them every couple months bc we jam close to Tennessee/NC border.

Working on a couple albums this year. I have a decent recording setup and lots of pro gear.

This is in no way an attack on any of my current or former band mates, but what I really want to find is another primary songwriter and vocalist that is multi-dimensional and maybe not an expert at any one instrument but views the entirety of a song as the artwork. I have had the pleasure of playing with (still jam together) the best bass player In my known local world. He writes the absolute best baselines to every one of my song ideas and we compliment each other in great magnitude.

However… like I mentioned… I can’t imagine what could be accomplished if I could simply find another artist that generates ideas , sings, writes music and lyrics etc. I want to create a fresh sound by blending writing styles and feeding off of another artist. In every group I’ve been in since I was 13 I’ve had an overwhelming feeling of carrying the load more than others. This is feeling I put on myself, because I wanted to inspire my mates and not let them down. I’m ready to share that burden in efforts to reach greater heights. It would be especially interesting if i could find a singer that has a very different range and style than my own. So many times I have had to throw out great part ideas because they weren’t in my wheelhouse (low or high). Don’t get me wrong I have decent range and I tend to be on the higher octave side (at least for a male). , but a long time ago I learned to valuable lesson that range can be easily substituted for character and originality etc.

Some detailed lists of items and experience I have is below but I will finish by saying that I have a decent amount of equipment for tracking and I am getting better at creating quality sounds and mixes. I’ve tampered in recording world since I was 16. I started creating electronic loops and beats using a MsDOS program called ‘Impulse Tracker’ until the first fruity loops came out (now called FL studio).

In the years since I’ve mainly tracked my ideas and my various groups songs for pre-production purposes (to ensure we were ready for the good studios). I’ve used pro tools with the old Digi001 and 002 and also Reaper with various other interfaces and now I use Logic Pro almost exclusively with a focusrite 18i20. Since the pandemic ive really focused on sound engineering and I have greatly improved my knowledge and quality. I’m no expert but I def now believe I have all of the tools and knowledge to create a very good album that will be radio quality (of course it takes me longer since I’m still learning)

Influences

Oh boy where to start?!?!

As a kid I was regularly spoon fed all of the great classic rock from my dad and a steady dose of Michael Jackson and various pop from my mom.

Not in any order:
1. Beatles - all of them as a unit and also all of their solo work throughout the years
2. All grunge - Nirvana, Alice In Chains etc etc
3. Lots of metal and hard rock - Metallica , STP, FF, Deftones, Korn lol
4. Sparta - Jim wards group after leaving ‘at the drive in’
5. Awolnation , imagine dragons
6. Pink Floyd, guns roses,
7. Clapton (my favorite guitarist probably still to this day)
8. Tom petty
9. Eminem , 50 cent , jay z , Ice cube , Dre, PAC, Biggie
10. Motown as a whole
11. Folk music
12 ambient and dreamy music
13. Maybe it would be easier to list what I do not like?! Lol
