ABOUT

Production company looking to record live musicians.....

Born in Houston,TX; Dedric "Dee(Db)Flat" Cohen born to Willie and Cheryl Cohen, burst into music when he was a young boy . Dee-Flat's (Db) influence reach from within his family roots of choral and gospel singers and performers. Instrumentally his influences come from artists such as Ray Charles, Quincy Jones, Stevie Wonder, James Brown, B.B. King, Mozart, Lionel Richie, Con Funk Shun, Issac Hayes, One Way, Norman Brown, Roy Ayers, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Bill Duke, Conrad O Johnson, Sam Jackson and GOD.... I first began and learned how read and understand music theory until I was in high school my instructor at the time was Sam Jackson. Once a professor of music and lead director of world re-known "Ocean of Soul" at Texas Southern University, had a heavy influence on Dee-Flat's career. Learning music theory and composing by 10th grade, I further pursued music in many ways. Gaining honors and recognitions in performing arts such as symphonic percussion concerto's to earning perform soloist awards as a jazz pianist and percussionist... Going on forward to (TxS.U.) Texas Southern University, I'd had the privilege to perform and rehearse with many fine artist. While attending TSU, I also had the privilege to direct and compose music for the schools gospel choir, "The Voices of Imani" where we performed for concerts and gospel explosions. I'd later on took on a position as a asst. band director at my old high school, Westbury High School were I helped composed and arranged music for the marching band and percussion ensemble a.k.a "The Drum Section"... My reason for pursuing a career in music production is because this is my passion. I loved music and creating my own music since I was a child. I always was a favorite in the "Beat-Box'n" challenges we had when we was kids. I always wanted to sing like Jodeci, Boyz 2 Men, Dru Hill, Stevie Wonder, Temptations, Luther Vandross, and many others. I was that kid in ghetto that'll listen to jazz, classical, rock and tejano... My target audience is the 21century as a whole. I want to touch the skies of the musical realm... I can describe my music as a Smoking Pot, because whatever you get out will nourish your soul.... My passion in my music set me aside from others. Sultry sounds from my heart could truly be felt down to your soul , soothing your heart and mind from everyday shenanigans.... I had a project that I worked on along with a local group by the name of Yank Mob Records. I produced and composed the album, "Real Niggz Never Change" which is currently on iTunes and Spotify, I'm currently working on a compilation album that will showcase various styles and sounds of Smoking Pot Productions and DeeFlat along with featured artists.... My plans for the future is to continue on my career in music and performing. In 10yrs. I plan on being at least a grammy nominated or award winner as well as teaching and influencing our youth and peers through Fine Arts.... My fans can access me online ://smokingpotproductions.
