ABOUT

Hey, my name is Clay and I have been playing bass for 7 years. I played guitar for 2 years before I was needed in a bass role for a friend's band. From then on I fell in love with bass and it has become my passion. I have experience playing live shows and have played with several bands of multiple music genres including: jazz, blues, punk, southern rock, reggae. I believe I am one of the best bass players I have ever met because of my passion and commitment level for the bass. I know music theory, can communicate effectively with other musicians, and therefore I am highly adaptable in just about any situation. I can improv and solo very well(thanks to my time in a jazz band). I have developed my own unique style and touch over these 7 years of playing that has been a journey, but I am constantly learning more and searching for new ideas. I am looking for a band in just about any genre of music that is dedicated to making things happen. My goal is to be in a touring band within the next 2 years. I have the dedication level to accomplish this, but I am in need of other individuals with similar goals as mine, so I am not held back. I am open to jam or do a show with anyone who needs a bass player at any time, whether serious or not! Feel free to mail me or call when ever. I also have a lot of experience recording in the studio, and also on home projects with garageband. I will put some clips up.

Influences

I have been influenced by many different bands as well as individual musicians. The bands that have influenced me the most have been Sublime, Slightly Stoopid, and Pepper. These bands are very similar to each other, yet they are unique and different from any other style I have heard. These bands have influenced me most because the various changing energy levels in this style of music(most would call so-cal reggae) add a lot of excitement to the music, which can be applied in any kind of music. Some individuals that have influenced my style are the greats: Victor Wooten, Flea (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Matt Freeman (Rancid), Les Claypool (Primus), Fat Mike (NOFX), and many others. These bass players are great because they all have a unique style and a passion for bass. Another big influence I have is jazz. I played in a school jazz band all throughout high school. This experience taught me that there is more to music than sounding good. I learned how to have a conversation with other musicians through instruments and had a lot of experience playing in front of people(we played at school gatherings, lunch, and community events, as well as held our own concerts). To sum it up, I have been involved in many different kinds of music scenes all of which have influenced me and I would say I am a very balanced musician.

EQUIPMENT

4 string MTD which I would highly recommend(very high quality, affordable, and has never let me down), 15'' Peavey Bass amp(a little cumbersome to move around, but more than enough for most shows and jamming), an acoustic/electric bass which I just fool around on(not the best of quality, but fun), as well as a mic w/ a stand if I am needed for vocals.
