ABOUT

Hello everyone. The "Southern Cross band" is regrouping. No, not the country band from Peoria, the one from Champaign area that has been around since about 1976 off and on. The band has been through some changes over the years, but now is going back to it's roots and giving it another look. We hope to be covering many great 70's and 80's rock artists. We are going to lean more AWAY from the southern rock style, though we will likely play a few. What we need is an "in the pocket" bassist, and a killer keyboard player. We don't think we can roust our old keyboard player out of retirement. What we end up actually playing, or sounding like, will certainly be determined by who we find, but we already have guitar and drums covered. We both sing as well. The group already has practice space, and plenty of equipment. Practices will likely be on Wednesday nights in Tuscola, but could be held elsewhere if the new members have practice space, and it is more central to all involved.

This band will be more about the music and the fun... and will not be a "full time" gig. You will need to keep your "day job". There are no aspirations of greatness here... just a want to scratch that itch, and do it in front of a lot of people. We both have family and careers, but do love to play. Our want is to play out 3-5 nights a month, but it all depends on many things.

We are not looking for a "leader". We will all be leaders, and have a voice in everything. There will not be just one person doing all the booking, but rather whomever has opportunity, will book the job. This will be a "collective/collaborative/low pressure" effort. What we want is to look and sound professional, but have fun doing it.

Some of you may remember the "Southern Cross Band". We backed up some fairly large acts in the 1990s. Acts like "38 Special", "Marshall Tucker", and "Cheap Trick" just to name a few. We have some original material that we would like to take to the studio, but will start with covers and work that direction.

Vocal tallent is a plus. Ideally, we would like to find a bassist and keyboardist that can sing at least 1/4 of the nights material. We want to sing rich harmonies, and were known for our harmonies as "Southern Cross". Hopefully, we can recreate it one more time.

Sound interesting? Send me an e-mail at wthford and let us know what you think. If we're close to the same page, we'll schedule a jam.

Thanks, and hope to hear from you soon!!

Influences

about anything rockin and 70's 80's. Boston, Kansas, Cheaop Trick, Pink Floyd, you get the idea. We love tasty guitar/keyboard oriented rock and roll. Not the old 3 chord stuff everybody plays, though we may play a few of those...
