Steve, a native of the Chicago area, played his first gig at age 13 in a blues bar in the steel town of Gary, Indiana. His bands, Bill and the Bachelors, and the Good Times Quintet played summer-long stints at Chicago area resorts, clubs, and special events. Steve “paid his dues” with the Bachelors, on the road, as the house band at Porky's Hide-Away in Fort Lauderdale Florida, in the gritty auto manufacturing city of Kenosha Wisconsin, and Calumet City, a notorious wide-open South Chicago suburb. Two players in the Bachelors, Curley Cooke and Tim Davis, co-founded the Steve Miller Band. In 1998, Steve’s Chicago blues band, "Code Blues", a 6-piece horn-driven outfit, came together as a result of a project at Chicago's Old Town School of Folk Music. Code Blues played at well-known Chicago area clubs (Cubby Bear, Chord-On-Blues, Flatlanders), corporate events ( Abbott Labs, Crate and Barrel ), high profile North Shore society civic, charitable events, and festivals. Code Blues was featured at the United Center, playing for the Chicago Bulls.
Steve , along with Bubba’s bassist Mike Raftice, co-founded Gainesville’s 6th Street Rhythm and Blues Review; “6th Street” was featured twice at the International Blues Challenge (IBC) in Memphis, the Daytona Blues Festival, Amelia Island Blues Festival, the legendary Bradfordville Blues Club in Tallahassee, backed New York’s Nicole Hart and opened for, among others, Tommy Castro, Debbie Davies, John Nemeth, and Roomful of Blues.
