ABOUT

Ran wedding band near Ames 1982 to 1990. Higher end weddings, some corporate gigs. Left the area 1990. Music educator for 35 years. Excellent trumpet player, pretty good rhythm guitar player, some lead guitar chops but limited. Because I taught band and Orchestra, I have pretty good chops on all the band instruments including electric bass, drum set, flute, clarinet, saxophone, trombone, multiple percussion. Good strong Rock and Roll vocals so-so for ballads. Excellent choir singer bass and baritone; tenor is a stretch. Re-forming the band we left behind in Ames. Serious about higher end weddings and corporate gigs again. Have an agent who says he's got the gigs, we just need the people. We have an outstanding female vocalist. She also plays pretty good Keys. We have a brilliant woodwind player. Alto and tenor sax, flute and clarinet. He also sings backups well and does a few lead vocal solos. We all read music like a house afire and have decades of experience, so getting new tunes into the set list happens right quick.

Influences

I'm pretty much all over the map, other than having nothing to do with the extremes of metal, thrash, grunge, gangsta. All the top 40 rock and roll from the 1960s through 1980s. Mostly 70s, as that's when I was in high school. Beatles, Stones, Bob Dylan, B.B. King, Eric Clapton, all that stuff. Played an enormous amount of jazz in high school, college and US Navy Bands so all The Usual Suspects: Glenn Miller, Dorsey Brothers, Duke Ellington, Satchmo, all those stop dudes. Lived in New Orleans during my Navy Band days, so an enormous amount of Dixieland Al Hirt, Pete Fountain, Dukes of Dixieland, Preservation Hall, all the traditional Dixieland from Bourbon Street. Recently, because I've been teaching in mostly Black and Latino schools in Minnesota, I've really gotten into classic Blues, R&B, some of the Latin stuff from the seventies to present day Some of the more reasonable stuff for kids have been listening to. R&B, soul, hip hop, etc.. I was thoroughly immersed in traditional Lutheran Church music from Day One; continued in that tradition and other Faith traditions since. Because I was a music major, major influences also include Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Aaron Copland, etc. etc.

EQUIPMENT

Kept our personal axes, but got ot rid of all our PA gear a few years ago as we were out of the commercial biz, but we'll get it all back; we already have the funding. So we'll have a 8-channel 2000W Main and monitor mixer amp, mics and mic stands, main and monitor speakers and stands, music stands and lights. We'll probably get a stage lighting system and possibly a fog machine, as they have become so inexpensive. Already have a vehicle capable of moving up to 6 people plus all the gear. I own a Les Paul copy by Ibanez, A small Peavey guitar amp, a Fender bass, a Bach Strad trumpet. AM planning to get a flugelhorn and maybe a trombone. Our ww player has top-end axes. Our keyboard player owns an 88 key Portable electric piano and a modest but effective synth/keyboard.
