Raised with a healthy appreciation for the blues - everything from Muddy Waters to Elmore James, Johnny Winter to SRV, Clapton to Hendrix, I developed a fascination with the soul and emotion of blues music. Naturally, I developed the same attractions to Rock N' Roll of all forms -- classic, metal, riff-based-rock, etc. I started writing music as early as 10 years old.
Around 1998 I joined "The Rich & Creamy Treat," a Cincinnati based blues/rock band. The "RCT" (as we called ourselves) won the Bogart's Battle of the High School Bands, besting 71 other groups for top honors. The RCT quickly gained a following and opened shows for established bands in the blues, rock, and ska genres. The RCT experience culiminated with local touring, regular appearances at bars, and even a shows for large audiences at Paramount's Kings Island and the Taste of Cincinnati festival.
During the 90s, I also developed a deep connection with the grunge and alternative movements. I was drawn to the "raw" sounds, the emotions (which I also felt through the blues), and the deeper introspective focus. In many ways, it became a focus of my musical mindset for a long time to come.
From 2000 - 2010, academic and professional pursuits sidelined any serious pursuit of music, however I never stopped listening and playing for fun. In 2009, I began performing again at open mics, meeting musicians, and I started writing new material. I got tired of people telling me that I should record my stuff, so armed with a microphone and my computer, I've been slowly recording demo versions (guitar + vocal) of original material.
Those who know my earlier work may be surprised by the style of my newer material. Much of it is dark, much of it is painful, but it is all genuine. None of it is polished, none of it was produced in a studio... but it does contain raw emotion and the musical framework for something larger.
