Ruler Of The SeaThis is an epic, sweeping tale of one man against the ocean- a fisherman who has angered Poseidon and now is forced into a contest of wit and strength. Again, this song is nothing without Vikram Shankar (Redemption) and his work! I had always wanted to challenge myself to see if I could write a long song that was not a bore...you tell me if I succeeded!
NightwishI love Nightwish, and Epica, and symphonic metal in general. I wrote this song in homage to Nightwish and it is the only song on the CD that has vocals (which were done by Mary Zimmer). It tells a story of a couple fleeing from some unknown evil and struggling to survive the night. The song is also made 1000% better by a keyboard line from Vikram Shankar of Redemption.
Night FlightMore influences and a story. I am an Iron Maiden fan and my attraction to the dual guitar comes directly from Messrs. Smith and Murray. This song reflects that influence. It is a story of a dogfight- American versus German, old WW2 time frame- and I tried to capture one sound for the American pilots and another for the German. There is a winner and a loser...
Mind Of DarknessOK, showing some influences here...Dream Theater sort of stands out! I am also very proud that my guitar mentor and all around amazing player Paul Ouzounov does an outtro solo that puts me to shame (Paul Ozz Music, check him out)
AladdinAladdin is meant to evoke images of the desert, the middle east...it's filled with all sorts of middle eastern chordal influences and patterns. Minor keys, which I have always loved. The song also makes a major twist in the middle and has some fascinating instrumentation (Japanese war drums, anyone)? This is also a song that features the way beyond excellent Vikram Shankar on keyboards.
Aggressive NarcissismThis is the first instrumental I wrote for the CD and in fact the first I ever wrote, period! I think I chose the title because I saw what I was doing as somewhat "aggressively narcissistic"!
