ABOUT

Just a lonely blues harp player searching for a group to gig or produce with. My primary strengths are rooted in traditional Delta and Chicago style blues, but I have eclectic tastes and have also branched out into many other genres, like: bluegrass, classic rock, funk, jazz, cajun/zydeco, and even classical. I'm always interested in pushing the boundaries and challenging myself in new, unfamiliar areas. People seem to associate harmonica with Dylan, Young, Popper, and other more mainstream musicians. Not to discount them at all, but their technical ability on harmonica is seriously lacking compared to the likes of Little Walter and other blues musicians that I try to emulate.
I am willing to sing lead vocals or harmony, but I am largely untested there, so I ask that you bear with me. I can do hand percussion, and also play a little piano by ear; nothing too fancy. I'm comfortable on stage and have a good sense of humor. With a little gentle guidance, maybe I could be your new front man or at least a significant asset to your current sound.
Message me at mikeDstreet (at) G mail (dot) com if you can't contact me on Bandmix. (Bandmix will delete your email if you try to type it here, so that's why I wrote it like that). I CANNOT contact you first unless you have your email typed similarly, or have listed other contact info here.

Influences

Blues: Little Walter; Sonny Boy Williams (1 and 2); Sonny Terry; Muddy Waters; James Cotton; Satan and Adam; Jason Ricci.
Jazz: Brubeck; Coltrane; Thelonius; Vince Guaraldi; Bill Gallison.
Contemporary stuff: The Black Keys; Dorothy; The Lumineers; Corb Lund; The Steeldrivers; lots of local RVA musicians.
Anything unique, evocative, folky, or personal; I love it. From Electronica to Hip Hop, Classical to Rock and Blues; I listen to very diverse stuff, and I like seeing how all those little influences work their way in to my playing.
