ABOUT

I am looking for musicians interested in recording original ideas or revamped covers w/ extended improv first, then maybe local cover and/or especially tribute gigs for starters if the chemistry is good. The actual creativity and getting it recorded is what is important to me right now.

I think of it as an album project, and would love to put one together and really polish it. I have a full studio with all of the major rock instruments and recording gear, and tend to think like a producer. Maybe some day not too far away, I will quit my day job and really get into that role professionally. I like to write songs and perform and record them, although I don't do much in the way of vocals or lyrics.

Must have a strong appreciation for '70s/'80s music, including understanding where it was coming from. I especially like the idea of a twin guitar band like so many of the heavy hitters.

If you are one of these people who might pick up the guitar for two months, then get bored and not play again for 6 months, or might have a jam setup but decide to watch some TV show instead at random, then we are on a different wavelength. I'm looking for people that LOVE music and NEED it.

Influences

I'm especially into '70s/'80s rock and metal across a wide range and appreciate musicians with at least some technical skill. This includes the standard icons---Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, early Metallica/ '80s Bay Area thrashers, early Ozzy and many others including some poppier bands like old school Journey (with Greg Rolie especially). There is a lot more pop music that I listen to, but probably would not play on stage.

I can appreciate The Police, U2, Rush, and '80s New Wave and some New Romantics. Also Alternative like early Cult and many others (which I like much better than '90s and up Top 40 "alternative").

I can also appreciate the early classics such as Zep, early Floyd, King Crimson, The Beatles, Hendrix, Yes, Van de Graaff Generator, etc. Moving forward, I like somewhat newer bands like Porcupine Tree (Steve Wilson is my hero), and consider them an example of what I would like to work toward with more guitar presence (this is by no means a confining idea). Also like bands like Mars Volta and Janes Addiction, the energy involved. Or Radiohead in their more atmospheric moments. I am somewhat of a music historian and love the subject. Overall, the Brits have me sold from the late '60s to the present, including generations of Brit Pop/Rock, New Wave of British Heavy Metal, etc.

I also like beautiful music, like instrumentals from Al di Meola and technical music like Dream Theater, but with a bit less wankery and more accessibility. No need for 28 minute songs!

My guitar influences include Neal Schon, Jake E. Lee, John Sykes, John Petrucci, Alex Lifeson, Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix, Warren DeMartini, early Steve Vai, Andy Summers, Al di Meola, and Adrian Smith/Dave Murrary, to name only a few.

EQUIPMENT

I have a basement music studio where reasonable volume is no problem (would consider renting space if a good band is formed), including numerous guitars and basses (ESP, Fender, Charvel, Jackson, Carvin, Ibanez), Mesa Boogie and Marshal amps, a Yamaha Motif keyboard, and a full drum set and recording setup. Enough to produce a CD or jam with a full band.
