ABOUT

Hi, All, here's what's up...
I sing weekly when not traveling with two groups: Blue Moon Rising has 68 members singing four parts, and our group of 8 sings to soothe many elders.
Last month I attended the SAMI meeting. What a great gathering of experienced musicians!
They meet upstairs at Imagination Station while the Tippecanoe Arts Federation is being remodeled; the facilitator is charming, and they may plan a fall party around a backyard fire.
I don't know where their string jam session has moved -- most first & third Saturdays!
Come on over!

Other news... on the vernal (spring) equinox I balanced raw eggs on their ends, on a smooth formica table at the Purdue Memorial Union!

Other seasonal news: The Summer Solstice is Howie Clark's birthday! Look up Fete de la Musique to see the worldwide influence to turn city streets into places to play.

Native American Drummers came down from South Bend to play in full regalia for that, outside De;phi, IN. We celebrated the inauguration of the Bicentennial Park with them, because in 21816 this was still Indian Territory. The sun set at 9:20 that day, and the full moon rose shortly after, so we planned to have TIME that evening! Instead we used a wonderful INDOOR location while storms did their thing.

Influences

I'm influenced by wonderful festivals like the Champlain Valley Festival that was held at Kingsland Bay State Park in Vermont, Bread & Puppet, an amazing event in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom, The Fiddlers Gathering, annually held on the last weekend in June in Battle Ground, .moth , and singer-songwriters like Woody Guthrie, Dillon Bustin, Cindy Kallet and Carrie Newcomer. I like the book with lyrics and words for 1500 songs, "Rise Up Singing!' and believe in music as a way to change the world.
I've written a few songs, have produced radio shows with interviews weekly for 1.5 years. The show was called, 'Peace in the Valley,' and produced some excellent TV shows for preventing war with Iran, and for International Women's Day. I've also painted large murals during the past 4 decades, up to 4-stories high, or 400' wide.

EQUIPMENT

I have an Ovation guitar with electric pick-up I should sell, as well as a Piano, a beautiful 12-string guitar, banjo, strumstick, 2 flutes, music toys, etc.
I'm a skilled visual artist with great discipline, but I admit I play these instruments somewhat as a ferret does. I like to improvise, and when we practice singing in our music room here, I can often guess what note a pitch is.

CALENDAR

Past Events

Fete de la Musique comes to Delphi Indiana for a Bicentennial Solstice Celebration, Monday, June 20.

Sing while the sun shines! Fete de la Musique (Fet' duh-la Myu-Zeek') began as an idea in France in 1982, and began to spread as a phenomenon on the day of the Summer Solstice in 1982. It's celebrated in as many as 120 cities.

Now it's growing to include downtown restaurants in Delphi. For example hear Howie Clark from Brookston on his birthday, on banjo, at the Stone House restaurant, 117 E Main St, Delphi, 4-6pm. Solo, duo and trio acoustic singers and players, please call 413-627-5979 to land your spot from morning-4pm, or join us later in the evening.

At 6:30 just before the apex of the sun's journey, all are invited to gather at Deer Creek Bicentennial Park. We'll celebrate at the Freedom Bridge by the Hoosier Heartland Highway. Take the Delphi Main Street exit and the first turn onto 300 North. You'll see Event Parking signs. Portraits will be drawn of the one coming the farthest, and the one bicycling the farthest.

It's a long evening; we'll have time! The sun sets at 9'20. Then the full moon rises!

You can see photos of the land and history being preserved, along with hiking and bicycling trails being developed. Thanks to volunteer Jacob Adams, details will be added weekly to the Deer Creek Bicentennial Park website.

Event organizer: Sunny Miller
Additional Committee members include Mayor Shane Evans, Dan McCain, David McCain, Mary Mears, and Julia Leahy, Chamber of Commerce.
