C'mon. It's not that hard to figure out...

Sunstealer is a grunge / metal / acoustic band that's basically based in the Whitehall / Columbus area. I, Icarus Stall, am actually from Lancaster, but Im assuming any drummer worth his salt will have practice space, and if you're based in the Greater Columbus area, then I'll be coming to you anyway, because Eric, the bass player, lives in Columbus.

We are currently working on releasing a hardcore metal LP and an acoustic LP on the same day in the (hopefully) near future . The acoustic LP is more than written and recorded for the most part, outside of bass, drums and a couple of vocal takes. Currently sitting on 14 acoustic songs, but I only plan on using 11 tracks on each album. I believe I have about 9 songs finished for the metal album. Not sure exactly what genre we are, but it's a cross between grunge, doom, progressive and stoner metals on the one hand, and think Alice In Chains, Smashing Pumpkins & Blind Melon on the acoustic numbers, or some bastardized creation like that. Suffice it to say, it's two radically different camps, but somehow it all works out well...

I'm also writing a novel or possibly a series of novels that explains the story behind the music, which I'll certainly explain to anyone who's interested, but I won't go into it here. It's very dark subject matter, I'll just say that. All about the destruction of this planet by Th? Gods, Angels and others (???) whom Th? Gods picked to assist Them with this humanity's particular war. It is shaping up to be an extremely violent and sexual novel, so the squeamish need not apply.

This is a project which I take very seriously because it's the culmination of my life's work: Everything has been building to this, basically. Eric is an excellent bassist and he's well-rehearsed on about 75% of the tracks, so this is basically a plug and play opportunity, if you are serious about your art.

It goes without saying that I expect a professional attitude, equipment, punctuality and serious chops. It you're thinking you're borderline on making the group, then you might as well just not bother. We need a serious machine with FEEL behind the kit...

And if you think blast beats are awesome, don't bother either. Looking for someone extremely tribal sounding, a la Roots-era Sepultura. If you have 4-5 toms and can play the hell out of a double bass that's a big plus for us.

Even though this is a serious project, we also know how to unwind, we'll just say that. Of you're a prude, you probably won't fit in with us.

Hope to hear from you...

Yours Truly,

Icarus Stall

Influences

Alice In Chains, Slayer, STP, deftones, Smashing Pumpkins, Soundgarden, Zeppelin, Kyuss, QOTSA, Meshuggah, Blind Melon, Faith No More, Early Marilyn Manson, Metallica (at least up to ...And Justice For All, but I have liked some of their other stuff), Sepultura (until Max left), Clutch, Tool, Danzig, City and Colour, Van Halen (with Roth only), White Zombie (not Rob Zombie's solo crap, though), Nirvana, Tupac, Hail Mary Mallon, Shout At the Devil, The Beastie Boys, Empire Of the Sun, Biggie (Puffy can go suc... well, never mind), The first Filter record (Short Bus), SRV, Hendrix, basically already mentioned him, but definitely EVH, Cobra The Impaler, Prince, almost all Motown releases, NWA, Rumours, Zakk Wylde, Guns n' Roses (until those last two garbage tracks they released), Ghost [they / he get(s) a BUNCH of hate they don't deserve], Chevelle, Run the Jewels, Masters of Reality, most things John Frusciante does, The Black Crowes, The Sword, Sabbath, obviously, Opeth, Johnny Cash, Pantera, and Prince playing the greatest guitar solo of all-time...

Too many more to name, really, but it's definitely an eclectic bunch...

Oh yeah, and we sound like none of that...

Members Of Band

Icarus Stall: Guitar, Vocals, Songwriting, Engineering, Production, Artistic Direction, Artist, Novelist and Photographer. I can also play piano but haven't done that in forever, that will change soon; probably write something piano-based for the third LP, but let's not get ahead of ourselves, okay???

Eric Merz: Low End, cracking jokes, etc.

EQUIPMENT

I use a 1998 Les Paul Double Cutaway through a Mesa Boogie Single Rectoverb 50 (which flat-out screams) with minimal pedals, really. I have a Seagull S6 that I run through an LR Baggs Venue DI into the board (in general) for the acoustic set...

Eric plays a Warwick Corvette 4 through Trace Elliot amplification (not sure what model it is, but it's pretty stout). He also has a Fender, I want to say Jazz, but it might be a Precision; I literally don't remember, as he only uses it sparingly for effect, because that Warwick is serious beef...
