ABOUT

This band will specialize in all things 80s (except hair metal). I have chosen song possibilities from Top 40 lists for the years 1980 to 1989. This covers an incredible variety of music. Some of it has been nearly forgotten, but anyone who had an active social life in the 80s will recognize each song right away. The name of the band says it all--if it was on "Empty Vee" (MTV) in the 80s, you might hear it here.

Influences

Many, many. From Hank to Hendrix (sounds like a great song concept--wait, Neil Young already took it). I grew up listening to white English boys play the blues. I didn't have a full appreciation for how much great guitar work is in these 80s songs until I started listening to them again a couple years ago. That was where I got the idea for the band.

Members Of Band

Right now, just me. I'm looking for bass and drums, definitely. Beyond that, some combination of the following:
1. Another electric guitarist. This would need to be someone who can play parts. Many of these songs don't break down easily into rhythm and lead. Rather, there are two or more distinct parts--chords, riffs, etc.--going on at once. This guitar player needs the skill to learn his or her part, either by ear or from tablature, and the humility to contribute to the song, even if that doesn't allow for a five-minute solo;
2. Keyboards. The 80s saw the explosion of easy-to-use, relatively cheap keyboard synths. Most of these songs have something like that, and in many cases feature that part prominently. I can cover some of that using my guitar to drive a synth module, but keys would open up a whole new set of song possibilities;
3. Another singer: I want to sing a good chunk of leads, but I neither want or need to do them all. I'm a pretty good harmonist. Obviously, any one who can sing either lead or harmony and fill one of the instrumental slots as well is that much more valuable.

EQUIPMENT

I have a complete PA system to cover mixing, amplification, and FOH. I prefer to use in-ear monitors. With my mixer, I can provide 5 individual monitor mixes (6 if you count FOH, which can also be routed to any monitor mix). I have a headphone distribution amp that works great for wired connections. For drums, keys, and any one who spends most of their stage time at or near a mic, this works very well. If you need wireless in-ears, you will need to provide your own. I can also send a monitor mix to an amp and floor monitor. I have plenty of spare amp channels for this, but only one dedicated floor monitor.
Oh, yeah, I also have about 10 good mics and a half-dozen mic stands with booms.
