ABOUT

I'm looking for people to play and practice with. Any instrument(s)! Mostly play cover songs together, more than to improvise or compose, with the exception of arranging (e.g. making songs more jazzy, if you're into that). I was thinking that each of us could make a list of 25-30 songs we'd like to play, and then choose a few from each other's list. Or something like that?

I may not be an experienced performer but I think I'd be a quick learner. I am pretty strong in music theory, having played the piano for 3+ years as a child, guitar for 5+ years, being a high school chorus member for 3 years, studying music theory in both HS and college, and also having a curious mind to read about it on my own time. It would be nice to find somebody at a similar sub-intermediate level, but would certainly welcome playing with complete beginner(s) as long as you (all) could commit to scheduled practice sessions, and at the same time I don't think I'd be too intimidated to play alongside somebody more advanced either; I just really want to play.

Besides guitar, I'm also not afraid to switch it up and try the keyboard or backup vocals or whatever is necessary for a particular song. I admire versatile musicians and would love to become more versatile myself.

Influences

There's a difference between what I listen to, what I'd like to play, and what has had the greatest influence on my preferred playing/composing style. So I'll go with the artists that most represent a combination of those three things:

The Barenaked Ladies, Fountains of Wayne, Cake, Guster, The Eagles, The Cars, Kanye West (yes, seriously), Rilo Kiley, Weezer, and to a lesser extent, Say Anything, Saves the Day, Piebald.

Music from the '90s as a decade in general. I also think it would be fun to cover silly pop songs like those of Katy Perry, Lil Wayne, Miley Cyrus, Justin Timerlake, etc, or humor songs like those of Flight of the Conchords, Garfunkel and Oates, and Tenacious D. :-D I'm not a very serious guy, it's all about having fun and entertaining others!
