ABOUT

The Disasters are a band founded in 2012 by childhood friends Tim Ganapolsky and Jon Fischer. The Disasters have most of their influences rooted in '80s and '90s grunge, punk, and metal bands, but by no means mimic or cater to the confines of a genre, and maintain an experimental and creative attitude largely absent in today's music.

THE FORMATION OF THE BAND; A TALE OF TRAGEDY, GENIUS, AND ACCIDENTS:
Tim Ganapolsky grew up harboring an obsession with chemistry. At age ten he received his first chemistry set, and although it was a "safe, children's chemistry set", he successfully created an enzyme that could accept genes as a substrate and transfer them through various epithelial membranes into a body, where this enzyme would function like reverse transcriptase and encode the genetic material into the victi-er I mean subject's cells. Tim demanded from the scientific community that he receive a nobel prize for developing his human genetic modification enzyme! He even included a drawing of the sun with a smiley face with it, to seal the deal.

Unfortunately, scientific panels rejected Tim's demands, and thus, Tim turned to the dark side. At age 10, he also found his first evil henchman, Jon Fischer, and together they began designing genes that would make a subject have incredible musical creativity and a strong desire to write awesome music. This way Tim could exist in a world filled with his favorite genres of music and experience a euphoric existence.

Tragically, on the day the two mad scientists completed their masterpiece gene-enzyme complex and were about to find a victi-I mean a volunteer to test it upon, a horrible disaster occurred, dousing the two geniuses in the solution containing the complex. They became genetically predisposed to astonishing musical creativity, and they found themselves unable to resist forming a band and writing music. They named themselves "The Disasters", after the event that made them that way. Now, instead of using chemistry to bring about great music to the masses, the Disasters will use more direct methods: playing music and inspiring others to do the same.

THE NONFICTIONAL STORY:
Tim and Jon met as children, but their musical paths did not collide until 2011, when Tim, lead guitarist of the punk band Phased Out, convinced Jon to play bass for his band. Although Jon had never played bass before, his array of skills and talents in guitar crossed over to this new instrument, and he quickly grew adept with it. Tim had long wanted to start another band, one where he would be able to explore new musical frontiers and have more creative freedom, but up till that point, could not find any like-minded musicians who had the skills and drive to work with him. In recognition of Jon's skill, Tim began jamming with him separately of Phased Out, and pleased with how naturally the two worked together and how beautiful the results were, the two founded the Disasters.

The Disasters refuse to be assimilated into the repetitive, monotonous atmosphere largely present in the New Jersey musical atmosphere. Every song explores new musical frontiers, and the results are anything but ordinary. Tim focuses on writing dynamic songs, with uses of effects, cleans, and powerful, unforgettable overdriven riffs. He sings with lyrics exploring societal, cultural, emotional, personal, and metaphorical topics, that encourage the listener to think, experience catharsis , empathize, and question. Jon delivers an impressive voice to harmonize and emphasize the music, and provides thunderous rhythm and lead bass capabilities. Currently, the Disasters have written several full songs, and continue to write in a productive, and fruitful manner.

DRUMMER LOOKING TO JOIN?
With the development of a full setlist within reach, the Disasters are looking for the third and final member to join them in their musical escapades; a percussionist, not afraid to break musical boundaries and experiment, yet can always a maintain a solid foundation and heartbeat for a song. A drummer who wants to have fun playing music, but is also serious about it. Ideally, we are seeking a drummer who has his own kit (for obvious reasons, i.e. gigging, practice, recording, etc.), can rehearse once every one or two weeks, and wants to play live. If you believe you can fit these criteria, don't hesitate to contact us at:
