Bass Guitar, Drums, Electronic Music, Keyboard, Lead Guitar, Other, Rhythm Guitar.ABOUT
I classify myself as a one-man-band, although I've never had the opportunity to perform as such. Instead I've mostly written and recorded songs through electronic means, and for a brief period of time played in a startup rock band as bassist at first, and then as the third guitar.
I'm looking for a group of musicians who aren't afraid to do things, who don't try to pidgeonhole themselves. No "that isn't right for this band," or "we aren't going to do things that way"—try things, do things! I want to create music that's surprising, something unexpected that might make the listener think. I want violent songs in major keys, epic songs in hushed tones, sad songs that make you smile.
I've been writing for years, but I'm not intent on forcing people to play "my" music. I'd love to let the songs grow with the group or even just write new ones to play.

Oh my goodness, where to begin... Nirvana, R.E.M., Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead, Metallica, Chevelle, Seether, Silversun Pickups, Sunny Day Real Estate, Sugar, Led Zeppelin, The Mavericks, Soundgarden, The Killers, Volbeat, so many more, classical and folk influences as well, I honestly couldn't even tell you what influences half of my writing. I just try to learn something from everything I hear!

MAILER-DAEMON
MAILER-DAEMON Year: 2007 Genre: Alternative
I had to include at least one song that's at least a little loud! Arranged electronically, with the vocals mixed in later, although my singing style has changed in more recent years so I would probably attack this song differently now. A large part of the arrangement is devoted to the squealing feedback samples inserted into the pauses in the rhythm guitar pattern.

Lull
Lull Year: 2007 Genre: Acoustic
Originally written in 1999, I recorded this live demo eight years later. It lacks the bass guitar part, and the brushed snare and loud distorted guitar that belongs in the second verse onward (I mentioned in my description that I'm not afraid to mix styles!), but the basis of the song is here. My singing isn't perfect, but it did what I asked it to so I was happy!

Swift Kitty
Swift Kitty Year: 1999 Genre: Alternative
There's a lot of jazz influence in this one, especially in the rambling opening segment. Like most of my recordings, this was arranged electronically, and I was never able to find time to record decent vocals for it.

Leftover Song
Leftover Song Year: 1997 Genre: Acoustic
A progression I recorded years ago, trying to turn it into a song. At one point it had lyrics started, but they're lost in the mists of time now. I used to play this tune for hours, wondering what it could become. There's a bit of Bob Mould/Sugar in there, with the upper strings mostly droning the same notes against the walking bass note.
