Mississippi River Crooks
With original lyrics that take the listener on a journey to places they have never been and a sound that makes them hold their breath in anticipation of what is around the next bend in the road, Mississippi River Crooks bring their audience along on a uniquely personal adventure by creating a wholly unique presentation of music written, arranged, and performed for the listening audience. The selection and arrangement of each piece is designed to create an emotional and aural impact upon the listener. The melodic complexity of Rick Hightower’s classical background on keyboards and sax combined with the uniquely percussive guitar style and powerful vocal delivery of Memphis song-writer Darrell Wallace transcends labeling as a specific genre, with shades of rock, jazz, blues, classical, Celtic, and country influenced by Pink Floyd, Richard Thompson, Townes Van Zandt, Graham Parsons, Ry Cooder, and the Grateful Dead and provides a delicate canvass on which to paint the tremendously visual and soul-wrenching lyrics penned by Wallace.
