ABOUT

So - Tim Boomer is my real name. I was born to be a bassist, apparently. Looking for other musicians to play with and focused projects. I am interested in playing originals with a mix of covers and collaborating. I like collective improvisation. I got a book published "The Bassist's Bible: How to Play Every Groove from Afro-Cuban to Zydeco", learned a lot while writing it and got help from a number of world class musicians including Paul Jackson (Headhunters.) I love playing with musicians of all ages, experience, cultures, genders and genres. Most important to me is intention and a commitment to excellence.

I also shoot and edit video. The first two are my own compositions with my Rock and Ska band Offbeats. The rest are covers including my old Who tribute band, Police and Morphine covers, a Beatles cover shot partially at Burningman, and a clinic I did to share info about my book.

The audio demo "Walking on the Moon" is my arrangement of Sting's song. The idea is to demo the concept of "Lots O Styles".

Influences

In my compositions I am influenced by everyone I have heard, from the Police, Miles, and Fella to Hendrix, Thievery Corporation, James Brown and the Neville Brothers. There is so much good music. Why limit yourself? As bassists go: Paul Jackson, John Entwistle, Sting, Paul Chambers, Jaco, Jack Casady - too many to name. I love crossing genres and mixing influences. The challenge is coming up with a cohesive sound and style and getting people up to dance and having something you like to sing about.

EQUIPMENT

I have pro gear, of course, but it's more about the playing right? A story: When my first bass (a '69 black Gibson EB3) was stolen out of my apartment I borrowed a horrible ugly bass from a friend and kept playing. Later I made my own bass. As I also play guitar / drums and keys I keep them around too.
