ABOUT

To the point:

Played many of the A clubs and casinos when they were popular rock venues and not tribute band breeding grounds from Everett to Vancouver WA with bands listed below. Smoking and DUI laws hammered the clubs to where they never recovered there cliental. Pay was pretty much nothing then the DJ's stole the venues. Club owners could now get something for practically nothing with the DJ's.

Performed with rock bands in Europe when I was in the service. Did years of touring in the Rikk Beatty band performing many Rock Festivals throughout the United States along with clinician work for Digitech at all the major music outlets from the East Coast to the West Coast.

Club History:
Back in the day for me it was 1973 to1980 if you played any clubs (Casinos didn't exist at that time) you had to join the musicians union or you did not play but if the club owner allowed you to play he or she was subject to a fine from the union or got black listed if caught.

Seasoned Professional breakdown:
An individual that had the desire early on in life to pursue music professionally along with the ability to grasp and study the perspective instrument was a part of something big but ended up having a family and took a different path, yet stayed in tune with the instrument and music over the years.

The Instrument:
I have marked the Bass Guitar experience as advanced and not expert because I didn't pursue reading music charts but can tab.

My Journey begins:

1968: Started guitar lessons at 12 years of age with Johnny Lewis at Johnny Lewis music on the corner of Carpenter Rd and Pacific Ave in Lacey WA. AKA (Music 6000) now.

1969: Rolls around and a band called Grand Funk Railroad puts out there first album (On Time) the Bassist name is Mel Schacher, that was it for me! I didn't know it at the time, but the Bass Guitar would be my main stay for the rest of my life!

As a youngster I always gravitated to the more seasoned musicians prided myself on how much knowledge I could gather.

Started playing Bass in rock bands in Junior High & High School had a whole lot of fun with my buds Richard LaBonte, Eric Nyberg, Kirk Deming, Joe Hart, Jeff Parkhurst, Mark Gill & Scott McGee. Went into the Military for a couple of years came back & jammed with Bob Dean, Mike Logan, Gordon Lingren, Bill Sweeney, Kevin Wyre, Jerry Bentley, Kevin Hastings & a boat load of other folks and bands that are a memory loss.

Below are the names of some of the musicians & bands that I can remember and have had the privilege to ROCK with over all these years. The 70's at times was out of control! :)

1968/69
Mom would take me over to Richard Labonte's house in Lacey after my guitar lesson from Johnny Lewis every Saturday. Richard had a Bass Guitar that I quickly gravitated to and he would play the Drums and together we started getting into music.

BAND PROVES THERE IS STILL A PLACE FOR PROWESS

We admit it we are quote; Art Rock or progressive music fans (but our CD collection is probably about as weird as yours!) As such, anything with a certain technical element to the music is sometimes a welcome respite from the passion of a good three chord punk show.

Guitarist Rikk Beatty, Bassist Tim Hogan and Drummer Chris Shealy from Olympia WA would fully admit to being one of those Bands that SLEEPS with their instruments, genuine gear hounds, they can play flight of the bumblebee for breakfast. As the winner of the Seattle WA Guitar Center battle of the bands champion, it is their dedication to their craft that is more inspiring than there amazing playing. With goals ranging from music soundtracks to clinics and performances for their endorsers the band has a full plate of cool things going on around the release of their current CD. Kit and Katie say ROCK... and check The Rikk Beatty Band out.
