ABOUT

looking to join/form a band to create original progressive rock, hard rock, metal, psychedelic rock, atmospheric rock music. getting together just for jamming also cool. I play guitar, sing a bit (examples on _Zeppelinesque & Kublai Kahn), play synth occasionally, and mostly write songs. In an existing band, I'm guessing I'd fit best as an additional guitarist, vocalist and/or song writer rather than as a primary, but I'm open to whatever. hoping to find others like myself who draw from multiple genres and cultures when playing, writing & listening to music.

personality: mellow, laid back, easy going, friendly. a bit on the nerdy/geeky side (scientist by training). bands are about friendships -- friendships are about thinking beyond yourself.

the examples on here are just from messing around on the multi-track --some used to be on a Tascam tape portastudio and so have some heat damage and/or bleed-through issues here and there. but you get the general idea of how I play & sing. I'm doing everything on all the songs included here: rhythm guitars, lead guitars, vocals, synths, MIDI sequencing (i.e., on Beyond the Cage).

listening suggestion: clipping, hiss and bleed through be damned, just play it loud!

song details:

_Zeppelinesque -- the hypothetical voice of the song is Earth
not God (i.e., this is not a religious song)

Back from the future past --
an ode to Bill & Ted and the Wyld Stallyns

Kublai Kahn -- lyrics adapted from Samuel Taylor Coleridge's poem of the same name. Peart's adaptation in Xanadu (Rush) is awesome -- I'm trying to do a more literal adaptation of the poem... a work in progress.

Keehar and the Kestrel --
Keehar (Kehaar) is a seagull in the book Watership Down and a Kestrel is a sea eagle. In the book, Keehar and the Kestrel have a "disagreement" about whose piece of sky this is... the song is an instrumental interpretation.

Keehar and the Kestrel parts:
00:00 to 01:06 this piece of sky is mine!
01:06 to 03:31 dog fight
03:31 to 04:09 memories
04:09 to 06:25 the peeg vater (big water)
06:25 to 07:59 dog fight (reprise)
07:59 to 09:07 this piece of sky is still mine! (now I'm really pissed-off!)

maybe interested? then mssg me here, or at tonyrand.oh (putting the necessary at g m a i l dot com stuff after the oh).
