Taking inspiration from classic, singer songwriters Neil Young, James Taylor, Cat Stevens and Lucinda Williams,Portland, Oregon?s Troy Richmond Dixon blends the influences of country, rock, folk and soul into a smooth sound that is uniquely his own.
?For me, it?s all about the stories. That, and trying to find new ways to keep challenging myself melodically within this, what would seem on the surface, a fairly straightforward and simple genre of music. There have been, and are today, so many wonderful songs and storytellers that it?s always such a serious challenge to ensure that one is not repeating oneself. I think that?s a characteristic of most of the writers that I?ve liked before and that I admire today. It?s hard to make it look easy?referencing the sounds that inspire you and then taking trying to take the stories and arrangements somewhere else. ?
Born and raised in Jackson, Michigan, Troy has been writing, recording and performing his heartfelt and thoughtful brand of Americana/Roots music on the west coast for the last twelve years. Along with two previous CD releases, Troy has written over four hundred songs as well as numerous short stories and a volume of poetry.
Troy describes his new, five song self-titled EP as ?a fun mix of folk, country and rock that tries to
explore the boundaries of modern Americana music.?
