Influences

Tony has been playing alto saxophone for the past 60+ years. He started at the age of 7 years and was formally trained for first 7-8 years. Upon graduation from college, he had already played in numerous concert and marching bands, usually in 1st chair, and on stage doing various solos and talent shows in some very premier settings receiving 1st place trophy several times. Tony and his siblings played as a group throughout their youth and received the Director’s Trophy from the director of the Inglewood Boys’ Band, Col. Veasy Walker.

After college Tony played solos at isolated events off and on until Kenny G started becoming popular (early 1990s) at which point he purchased a soprano sax and started again to seriously play and perform on both his soprano and alto saxophones. Since then he has performed in several bands including big bands, swing bands and jazz bands and in the praise band at the church where he attends. He has also performed solo gigs at numerous weddings, parties and dinners with attendance at some parties being over 400 people (please see the reviews written about him from his clients – he only started asking for these reviews in the early part of 2010.)

Since the advent of Kenny G, Tony’s passion has been for performing using his saxophones. It is the gift from God that he is most passionate about. He loves to play all kinds of music, old standards, smooth jazz, blues, rock and pop – his repertoire includes some of each. His greatest musical influences are Kenny G, Richard Elliot, Kirk Whalum, Boney James, Walter Beasley and Gerald Albright.
