ABOUT

My name is Wayne Tympanick and and I just moved to the Outer Banks this past August from the Washington D.C. area. I was a local musician and educator in the D.C. area for the past 21 years and decided to move to paradise. We are now full-time residents and loving every minute of it. I am still playing and hopefully will be doing some teaching when things settle down. I have kept up with Dan Martier who introduced me to the music scene here on the Outer Banks and I’ve also touched base with Skip Hancock from time to time. So, I would like to give you my contact information for anyone that needs a drummer or a group. You can also follow me on .

BIO:
Wayne began his music career as a full-time student at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, where he studied drum set with Alan Dawson. During that time he did extensive touring with the popular singing group The Platters and was fortunate to play with the great Czechoslovakian pianist and composer Yan Hammer, who went on to write sound scores for many shows including Miami Vice.

Following graduation from Berklee Wayne performed locally in the Boston area and also toured with Full Circle for the USO. Wayne decided to dedicate himself to a career in Music Education, working as a high school band director in Texas. He also played with a number of noted bands, including the Glenn Miller Orchestra, the Guy Lombardo Orchestra, and many Texas jazz groups. Wayne continued his education working on his Masters in Jazz Studies at George Mason University in Virginia.

In the late eighties Wayne returned to his East Coast roots, settling in first the Baltimore and later the Washington, DC area, where he performs and teaches. He has performed locally with the George Hipp Orchestra, Joe Ayala Trio, Seth Kibel’s Dixieland All-Stars, and the Bay Jazz Project as well as many other groups. He has also performed live for Maryland Public Radio. His jazz groups have performed at many venues, including the Corcoran Art Gallery, the summer concert series on the Vienna Town Green in Vienna, Va. and several performances on Millennium Stage at the Kennedy Center.
He and his wife are now residing on the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
