Lead Guitar, Rhythm Guitar.ABOUT
People say various things about We Govern We. One of their members thinks it's like Cindy Lauper fronting the Killers. Their local paper describes them as Shiny Toy Guns with a little BitterSweet. Maybe it's La Roux touring with the Bad Seeds, but it doesn't really matter because how can you pigeonhole a band that, after paying tribute to the Pixies and Placebo, names both Duran Duran and Sigur Ross as influences? Maybe it's their unconventional background as their members hail from places as far apart as Alexandroupolis, Greece and Minneapolis, Minnesota and reached California via Prague and Athens.
Anna Karakalou (lead vocals) and Panos Scourtis (lead guitar) cut their teeth in the music industry with various projects before finally finding themselves as fellow band members of internationally acclaimed alternative electronic rockers Sigmatropic, where they got to collaborate with people like Carla Torgerson of the Walkabouts, open for acts like Moby, Sonic Youth, and Nick Cave, and eventually feel ready to do their own thing. The road to the West Coast saw them shooting two music videos, getting offers from various record labels, and arriving to their current incarnation with Luke Manriquez (drums) and Adrian Burke (bass).
The band gigs regularly around the LA Counties area -try the legendary Whiskey A GoGo where they have already played twice. As they near the completion of their first album you might want to pay attention, so you can say you knew of them before they hit it big. After all, if Daniel Ash (Bauhaus, Love & Rockets), who is guiding the production, thinks they are good enough it probably means you should too

Mulligan's Island
Mulligan's Island Year: 2017 Album: Zano Genre: Rock
MULLIGAN’S ISLAND I used to walk alone and write of all the silly things and the pretty light I used to lay in fields and feel watching clouds disappear I watched my parents fight and stole from my brothers happy meal Jumped from my bed to the open door Avoiding monsters on my floor I demand a do-over, do-over I would like a childhood that's so good All the fears that I have been feeling I could watch them fade away I told stories about werewolves living in our closets I had nightmares about tiny witches chasing me on rockets I wanted braces to make me grown up in my 3rd grade fantasy I thought that no one understood except for the boys from Goonies I demand a do-over, do-over I would like a childhood that's so good All the fears that I have been feeling I could watch them fade away I demand a do-over, do-over I would like a childhood that's so good All the fears that I have been feeling I could watch them fade away I demand a do-over, do-ove

oh! Tiger
oh! TigerMay 2011 might earn a place in history for many reasons. Among music fans however, it marks the launch of Reznor’s Orchid, the debut album of We Govern We, a California-based four-piece that is here to rejuvenate, perhaps even redefine, the genre generally referred to as alternative rock. Although this is the band’s first release, its members are far from industry novices. We Govern We are the brainchild of husband-and-wife duo Panos Scourtis and Anna Karakalos, who cut their teeth in acclaimed Greek alternative rock band Sigmatropic where they had the opportunity to open for or collaborate with such stars as Moby, Nick Cave, and Carla Torgerson (of The Walkabouts). Strongly feeling that their music would be more at home in the West Coast circuit, they moved to California where they soon found the right collaborators in Adrian Burke and John Boutin (formerly of Gwen Mars). The finishing touch and ultimate vote of confidence is provided by producer and resident sage Daniel Ash, of Bauhaus and Love & Rockets fame. While the band has been performing together for more than two years, there is good reason for the first launch coming only now. Far from the manufactured standardization that plagues most contemporary production, Reznor’s Orchid is not so much a debut album as a carefully crafted music box, giving insights into the band’s multiple influences and the rare dynamic among its members. Distilling those influences, Reznor’s Orchid is an eclectic but balanced mix of the band’s many facets. From the radio-friendly riff of Come Atlantis, to the mystical power of Edgar Allan Poe inspired Annabel Lee, and the teasing cover of Tears for Fears’ Shout, We Govern We have created a showpiece of immediate allure and enduring power.
