ABOUT

Songwriting is the key. If its a good song I am all in. I tend to gravitate towards well arranged stuff but I am open to jamming and grooving. I don't read music. For me it is all about feel. When I write I tend to look for ways to place ear candy in all the musical parts.

I am forty eight years old. I am stable, happily married, and a father. I own a business and also grab supplementary work on the side. Music is an important and necessary release in my life. I gain personal satisfaction from putting a great song together. I like to take great songs and make a great setlist which then becomes a great live show. I like to live test songs and eventually record them. I have no super star illusions. I just love music.

Influences

I love Richard Thompson for the musical chops, John Fogerty for the primal arrangements, and Tom Petty for the lyrical storytelling. I love the way Led Zeppelin transitioned between acoustic instruments and electric instruments while maintaining their own unique identity. Los Lobos blows me away. I love Mark Knopfler and Ry Cooder but I want to do something a little louder and rowdier than that.

EQUIPMENT

The electric guitar is a PRS. I run it through a ToneKing amp. I tend to like clean tones, even in rock music, so the melodic ideas cut through. That said, I will dig in for some overdrive on occasion. My acoustic guitars, both the 6 string and the 12 string, are Breedlove and I am fond of both. I have other stuff, like a mandolin and banjo, but I don't break them out often.
